Interwar Peak (1918–1945) · Dutch Oven
Used price$140–$200live on eBay
A No. 8 Dutch oven from Favorite Stove & Range Co. of Piqua, Ohio, made during the company's roughly 1916–1935 cookware years. Most that surface carry the smiley Favorite Piqua Ware logo. Only a few are listed at any time, and many listings don't say whether the lid is included, so ask: the lid should be a Favorite lid of the same size, ideally with the Piqua Ware mark, and should seat without rocking. A missing or mismatched lid takes a big bite out of the value. Then check the body for cracks — especially at the bail ears and across the bottom — look for chips on the rim and lid ledge, and check for pitting inside. Puritan-marked pots (made by Favorite for Sears) and No. 9 kettles come up in the same search and are different pieces. Favorite Dutch ovens are scarcer than Griswold and Wagner but usually ask similar money.
Common defects to inspect
Missing or mismatched lid; cracks at the bail ears or bottom; rim and lid-ledge chips; pitting; Puritan pots and kettles mislisted as this piece
Note: Recent asks run about $110–295 delivered; lidded examples sit at the top.
How to identify a real Favorite Stove
FAVORITE PIQUA WARE in an arc or block layout, often with a curved "smiley" line underneath, plus a size number that may carry a letter (8A); some pans add BEST TO COOK IN, and some carry the MIAMI diamond. Puritan-marked pieces were made for Sears. The bare word Favorite without Piqua is not proof of this maker.
Buying guide
From Oct 1, 2026 listings
Only four Favorite Piqua Ware No. 8 Dutch ovens were listed at the late-September check, and one, a smiley-logo pot near $159, is no longer listed; the three left are about $110, $168 and $294 delivered. The lid decides the value: only one title mentions one, so ask each seller whether the lid is there and carries the same Piqua Ware mark as the pot, because a missing or mismatched lid takes a big bite out of the price. Two of the three sellers are under 97% feedback, including the cheapest. At about 11½ pounds, shipping adds up, so compare totals. A Puritan-marked pot and a #9 kettle in the same search aren't this piece.

The lowest total from a well-rated seller: a smiley-logo No. 8 at about $168 delivered, Buy It Now, from a 99.9% seller. A $110 pot is listed too, but its seller sits at 95.3%. Ask whether the lid is included and marked Piqua Ware to match.
