Interwar Peak (1918–1945) · Skillet
Used price$50–$75live on eBay
The Wagner Ware No. 8 is the roughly 10½ inch skillet — the same size class as a Griswold No. 8 — and it is the most common Wagner skillet on the market. It has the stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo and catalog number 1058 with a mold letter (1058 C, 1058 D and so on). Heat-ring versions are the earlier castings, from about the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s, and usually ask more; smooth-bottom pans run up to about 1959. Some 1924–1934 pans have the "pie logo" layout, with the number and letter set in a wedge-shaped border and CAST IRON SKILLET lettering. The cooking surface is milled smooth. Before buying: make sure you're looking at a No. 8 — searches also return No. 5, 6 and 10 skillets, deep chicken fryers and Wagner's National-brand pans. Test it on a flat surface for rocking or spinning, look for hairline cracks at the rim and spouts, check for pitting and flaking plating, and confirm the 1058 is legible.
Common defects to inspect
Warp or spin; hairline rim or spout cracks; pitting; plating; sandblasted surface; other Wagner sizes and chicken fryers in the same search
Note: Most smooth-bottom No. 8s ask about $50–75 delivered; heat-ring versions ask about $110–145.
How to identify a real Wagner Ware
Stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo on the bottom with a four-digit catalog number (1058 on the No. 8 skillet, 1059 on the No. 9) and a mold letter; earlier pans show a plain WAGNER or Wagner Ware mark with SIDNEY O. and a size number. Later pieces read Wagner Ware with MADE IN USA. Magnalite pieces are aluminum, not iron.
Buying guide
From Oct 1, 2026 listings
34 genuine Wagner Ware No. 8 Sidney skillets were listed at the late-September check, most at $50–75 delivered; the cheapest, a 1058 near $35, has since sold. Look for the stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo and 1058 on the bottom; the same search also returned #5, #6 and #10 skillets, deep chicken fryers and National-marked pans, which are different pieces, and listings titled 8-inch are No. 5s. Restored, seasoned ones ask about $70–73, little more than many as-found pans, so a clean pan that sits flat and doesn't spin is the easy buy for a cook. Heat-ring versions are the earlier castings and ask about $124–143; one restored pan asks $195.
