Interwar Peak (1918–1945) · Griddle
Used price$85–$90live on eBay
Wagner's square cast iron pan, catalog number 1218 (with letters such as 1218 B, C or D), is about 9½ inches square with a handle that has a thumb rest, and sellers list it as both a square skillet and a griddle. It carries the stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo on the bottom. It's handy for bacon, sandwiches and square-cut cornbread. It is less common than Wagner's round skillets and handle griddles — Wagner's round No. 9 handle griddle is catalog 1109, a different piece. Before buying: ask for a bottom photo to confirm the 1218 and the Wagner mark, set it on a flat counter to check for rocking, and inspect the four corners closely, because corners take the knocks and chip or crack first. Look for pitting and plating as with any Wagner pan. Square Magnalite griddles in the same search are cast aluminum, not iron.
Common defects to inspect
Chipped or cracked corners; warp; pitting; plating; Magnalite aluminum griddles mixed into searches; round 1109 griddles mislisted as square
Note: Few are listed at any time; a saved search is the practical way to find one.
How to identify a real Wagner Ware
Stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo on the bottom with a four-digit catalog number (1058 on the No. 8 skillet, 1059 on the No. 9) and a mold letter; earlier pans show a plain WAGNER or Wagner Ware mark with SIDNEY O. and a size number. Later pieces read Wagner Ware with MADE IN USA. Magnalite pieces are aluminum, not iron.

From Sep 25, 2026 listings
Only one Wagner cast-iron square griddle turned up, at about $87 delivered, and its title calls it a square skillet/griddle with a thumb-rest handle, which fits the square pan, catalog 1218. Ask for a photo of the bottom to confirm 1218 and the Wagner Ware Sidney script before you buy; 1109 is the round No. 9 handle griddle, a different piece. The other square Wagner pieces in the search are Magnalite 4602 broiler griddles, which are cast aluminum, not iron. Set it on a flat counter to check for rocking and look closely at the corners for chips.

The canonical hot-water rinse tool — removes stuck-on food without stripping seasoning. Lasts a decade. The single best $15 accessory for any vintage cast iron user.
