Interwar Peak (1918–1945) · Dutch Oven
Used price$95–$290live on eBay
Wagner sold its No. 8 Dutch oven as a "round roaster": a body about 10¼ inches across inside with a bail handle, marked with the Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo and catalog number 1268. It was paired with several lids over the years, including the patented Drip Drop Baster lid (covered on its own page) and plainer lids marked Wagner Ware. Whatever the lid, it should be a Wagner No. 8 lid with matching marks, seat without rocking, and fit the body's lid ledge snugly. Ask for photos of both undersides before offering. Then check the body for cracks — especially around the bail ears and across the bottom — and look for chips in the rim and lid ledge, pitting, and flaking plating on nickel-plated sets. Searches for this piece are flooded with Wagner's Magnalite roasters, which are cast aluminum, not iron.
Common defects to inspect
Missing or mismatched lid; lid that rocks; cracks at the bail ears or bottom; rim and lid-ledge chips; pitting; nickel plating; Magnalite aluminum roasters mixed into searches
Note: Asks run widely, mostly about $95–290 delivered, depending on lid and condition.
How to identify a real Wagner Ware
Stylized Wagner Ware Sidney -O- logo on the bottom with a four-digit catalog number (1058 on the No. 8 skillet, 1059 on the No. 9) and a mold letter; earlier pans show a plain WAGNER or Wagner Ware mark with SIDNEY O. and a size number. Later pieces read Wagner Ware with MADE IN USA. Magnalite pieces are aluminum, not iron.
Buying guide
From Sep 25, 2026 listings
Only 6 cast-iron Wagner No. 8 dutch ovens are listed; most of the search is Magnalite aluminum roasters, a different product. Asks run from about $62 to $428 delivered, with most between $95 and $290. The lid is the main check: it should carry the same Wagner Ware script as the base and have Wagner's low loop handle, and several titles don't mention a lid at all. Ask for photos of both undersides before you offer. A cook should start with the Drip Drop baster pot, the only title that names its lid.

Stylized Sidney -O- logo, about $62 delivered with Best Offer from a 100% seller, well under the $95–290 band. The title doesn't mention a lid, and a pot without its matching lid is worth far less, so ask before you offer.

Heads-up: priced high
Priced high: hammered and nickel plated at about $428 delivered, over twice the median, and plating isn't ideal for cooking.

Sits under a heavy dutch oven on a glass or ceramic stovetop — distributes heat to protect the surface from concentrated point load. Required on most modern flat-tops; nice on a gas range too.
