Piece type
Vintage Dutch ovens and round roasters are bought as a set, and the lid decides the value. A matched lid carries the same maker and size as the body, seats in the lid ledge without rocking, and on collectible models bears its own pattern number — Griswold's Tite-Top lids are pattern 2551 on the No. 8, and Wagner's Drip Drop Baster lids are lettered DRIP DROP with patent dates. Ask for photos of both undersides before you bid. Then check for cracks around the bail ears and across the bottom, chips in the rim and lid ledge, and pitting inside. A complete Griswold No. 8 Tite-Top typically lists for about $120–220; Wagner, Favorite and vintage Lodge ovens are usually similar or cheaper, and bodies without lids sell for much less.
